On Being Famous and Fat

Unless you've had your face crammed nose deep in a cheeseburger made with donuts instead of buns, you've probably heard that Paula Deen has lost 30 pounds since being cast as the latest star of Wilford Brimley's The Diabeetus.

Did you notice the most popular word to describe her? It's "svelte." Here's a little "Google" search to show you how many times it's been used.

This is how fame works. If you go from a size 18 to a size 10, you are svelte. Yea you!

However, if you go from a size 4 to a 10, you are not svelte. Boo. You are now an enormous cow who must be destroyed. Also, the only photos that magazines will run of you now are of you eating. The horror! How dare you eat in public? Have you no self control, Jessica Christina Simpson Aguilera?

Fame is stupid.

  1. That's so true, Amy! I would describe a size 10 as perfectly healthy...but going from a size 4 to a size 10 IS seen as becoming FAT. Double standard, for sure.

    1. Exactly! It honestly makes me sad for famous women who dare to gain any weight at all. I read something so stupid about Mila Kunis *gasp* gaining weight. She weighed 98 lbs when she filmed Black Swan! Of course, she's gaining weight now! It's the healthy thing to do.

    1. Yes! Another human being! Good grief. And JS is lovely no matter what size she is, in my opinion.
